Teaching with the brain in mind means understanding that learning is not merely memorizing content, but a profoundly biological, emotional, bodily, and social process. Principle 1. Every child is unique. Each child has their own history, experiences, and developmental pace for brain maturation. All of this shapes their neuroarchitecture. No two brains are identical.

Principle 2. Environment matters (epigenetics). Genetics influences, but does not completely determine outcomes. The environment, relationships, and experiences activate or silence genes. Education means creating environments that allow potential to develop.

Principle 3. Learning is innate and lasts a lifetime. We learn before birth and continue learning throughout our lives. Everyone can learn, provided the right conditions are in place.

Principle 6. We learn with our bodies. The body participates actively in learning. Posture, breathing, facial expression, and movement are part of emotional bodily patterns. Becoming aware of the body helps regulate emotions and learn better.

Neuromyths in Education: Beliefs That Are Not True

“Brain functions are isolated”: The brain functions in interconnected networks, not in isolated zones. Learning involves multiple areas working together.

“We only use 10% of our brain”: This myth is false. Brain imaging shows that we use a large portion of the brain in almost any task.

“You cannot learn with age”: Thanks to cerebral plasticity, we know that learning can occur throughout life. The adult brain continues to change.
